Sharing Advent 2008 with Snow Hill

This year we produced an Advent Journal written by people form our community of faith. There are many good options available for use during the Advent Season. The Salt of the Earth Christian Seasons Calendar has been a favorite of Pastor Todd's for a few years. Scriptures for the Christian Seasons are combined with original art. Pastor Todd has recommended Walter Wangerin's Preparing for Jesus for a few years.

Recently many in the wider church have been calling for original work within a given Christian community of faith. Rather than hearing from the "paid" clergy, there is a hunger to hear how God is speaking to and among all of God's people.

Tony Campolo suggests a much needed move is taking place. At a recent convention Brad attended, Tony notes some of the most insightful thoughts about life and faith come from those considered on the "bottom." He referenced an event where African American women between the ages of 60-80 offered some of the most compelling thoughts on Scripture.

We believe God speaks to and through and in our community. Hearing form these voices is important. We will post these pieces on our website beginning today. Our format offered a weekly reflection from one of our staff on Monday. Tuesday through Friday members reflected on one of the passages for the current week of Advent. We offer a weekend special feature from our adopted missionaries, Jonathan and Kari Masson. Take the Advent journey with us as a tool for your own thoughts and reflections on the coming of Jesus.

Jesus invites people into his life and his way. He takes what is and points to the new way of the Kingdom of God.  Come see what this journey is all about!

One way to think about the mission of Jesus - He calls into question the way things are and points to the way things may be in the Kingdom of God.
