Scriptures for the Week – Advent Begins Sunday

90_20_3---Advent-Candle_webSunday marks the beginning of the Season of Advent. My mentor and the first pastor I served with asked me to provide the weekly Children's Sermon. He handed me an article from one of his magazines with an outline for the four Sundays of Advent. It was my first introduction to the Season of Advent – that was 23 years ago. Ever since wherever I have served we have taken the time to celebrate the Season of Advent.

Waiting, expectation, anticipation are all themes for Advent. The Scriptures for Sunday share these themes in common. Some relate to the anticipation of the fulfillment of the promise of God. Others point to the expectation of the people of God anticipating time together as they share in love for one another.

Take some time this week and read through Psalm 25:1-10. "None who wait for you shall be put to shame." While we wait the Songwriter considers it important to learn from the LORD God – his ways, from his mercy, from his steadfast love, from his forgiveness, for his goodness.

What do you need to learn from the LORD God as you wait?

Jesus invites people into his life and his way. He takes what is and points to the new way of the Kingdom of God.  Come see what this journey is all about!

One way to think about the mission of Jesus - He calls into question the way things are and points to the way things may be in the Kingdom of God.
