Friends Without Homes

Rusty, Sayra, Brad, and Nathan honored Jesus and reflected the care and love for others. Sitting in the back of one of our vans for heat, they sang Christmas carols for about an hour. Tina and Bram helped serve the Christmas Meal. Every church that participates with First Baptist Church Bethany feeding our friends who have no homes provided people to serve on this very cold evening. Snow Hill, First Baptist Church of Tuttle, First Christian Church of Tuttle and the Hinton Christian Church. Here is a challenge. If you do not think you will ever go on a mission trip outside the United States, consider at least one Monday evening spent with our friends who have no homes. You likely have images in your mind of just who you might meet. Well, on this night a mother and dad strolled around these two little ones. It was hard to think they would either spend the night in a local shelter or under and overpass.

Speaking of under and overpass, Pastor Todd just began reading Mike Yankosi’s book, Under the Overpass: A Journey of Faith On the Streets of America. This college student shocked his parents. He did not pack up and leave the country. Instead he selected six major US cities in which to live with those who have no homes – under the overpass. He began his journey becoming acclimated by living in a shelter in Denver, Colorado. It was a rehab center. From there he tells of the gradual tearing down of the dividing walls he experience. Think of Paul referring to Jesus who breaks down the dividing wall between all peoples – those with homes and those without. I will update you when I finish the book. Maybe you would be looking for a good read. Pick this one up and be challenged.

Jesus invites people into his life and his way. He takes what is and points to the new way of the Kingdom of God.  Come see what this journey is all about!

One way to think about the mission of Jesus - He calls into question the way things are and points to the way things may be in the Kingdom of God.
