Preparing for Others
Psalm 85: 1-3, 8-13
From the NIV
1 You showed favor to your land, O LORD;
you restored the fortunes of Jacob.
2 You forgave the iniquity of your people
and covered all their sins.
8 I will listen to what God the LORD will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints— but let them not return to folly. 9 Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. 10 Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. 12 The LORD will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. 13 Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.
God really does make it so simple for us. If only we would listen to what he shows us. How often do we do things our way only to discover our way did not work, if we were to be honest we would say always, or if it did work it only did so for a short while? When we have God in our hearts and trust in him to guide us we reflect it to those around us. God’s love will radiate from within us to those in the world if we will just let it be so.
It is up to us as Christians to show what it is to be a Christian, does this mean we wear a badge and show everyone we are good or saved? As the Psalmist writes in verse 13 Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps. It is up to us to prepare the way for those who need to know God, it is up to us as Christians to show God’s love to those around us who do not know of this Love. We are not to keep it to ourselves we are to open our churches and ourselves to those around us in our communities.
