Advent, Week 3 – Wednesday – Great Things for Us

Wednesday, Week 3
Great Things for Us

Scripture Reading
Psalm 126

1When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion,
   we were like those who dream.
2Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
   and our tongue with shouts of joy;
then they said among the nations,
    "The LORD has done great things for them."
3The LORD has done great things for us;
   we are glad.
 4Restore our fortunes, O LORD,
   like streams in the Negeb!
5 Those who sow in tears
   shall reap with shouts of joy!
6He who goes out weeping,
   bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
   bringing his sheaves with him.

I think the part of this Psalm that has the most meaning to me is the "the Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy."  It is so hard in this fast paced world we live in to stop and think of all the wonderful things God has done for us.  I find that I take a lot of things for granted especially the little things that God has given me.  I think with the Advent/Christmas season coming around, it is a great time to reflect on the blessings God has given us.  I know I will.

I am comforted in the fact that the Lord will always bring us back.  He will bring us back from whatever sin is keeping us captive.  I know there have been times in my life certain situations have kept me captive.  I didn't know whether I would ever be released, but God brought me back.  He filled me with laughter as stated in the scripture.  I realize times are tough right now, but I pray that God would open our eyes to all the good things that surround us.  It would be nice if more people would sing songs of joy, and be filled with laughter instead of dwelling on the negatives.  I understand, in certain circumstances that is easier said then done.  I know the Lord has done great things for me and my family and for that I give thanks.

Jesus invites people into his life and his way. He takes what is and points to the new way of the Kingdom of God.  Come see what this journey is all about!

One way to think about the mission of Jesus - He calls into question the way things are and points to the way things may be in the Kingdom of God.
